Chapel Hill-Carrboro Area Alumnae Chapter

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Area Alumnae Chapter (CHCAA) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered on March 18, 1979 by twenty-two college-educated women. Currently, the chapter’s 95 members take pride in serving the diverse communities in Orange and Chatham counties. The programs over the years have included:

  • Awarding $120,000 of merit and need-based academic scholarships to high school seniors
  • Sponsoring an annual MLK Blood Drive with the American Red Cross since 1990
  • Conducting Teen Summit and Delta Seminars for teens to prepare them for college
  • Programming in the arts, with an emphasis on African-American contributions
  • Providing personal finance seminars for teenagers and adults
  • Conducting awareness programs on breast cancer, depression, and heart disease
  • Giving financial support to a hospital maternity wing in West Africa
  • Providing financial assistance and direct services to a number of local, social action, non-profit organizations
  • Empowering adolescent girls through self-enrichment activities
  • Providing holiday baskets to needy families
